Acuro IFR Instrument Flying Course

Acuro IFR Instrument Flying Course

Acuro IFR Instrument Flying Course

1. Course Overview

The Acuro IFR Instrument Flying Course introduces pilots to the fundamentals of Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) operations using an Airbus A320 simulator.

Participants learn how to control and navigate an aircraft using instruments only, preparing them for operations in poor visibility and complex airspace environments.

Training is conducted in fully simulated IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions) and focuses on instrument interpretation, navigation procedures, and IFR flight techniques.

2. Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for:
  • Aviation enthusiasts who have completed the Acuro PPL Course
  • Aviation enthusiasts interested in instrument flying principles
  • Pilots holding a Private Pilot License (PPL)
  • Pilots preparing for IFR training or who want to review IFR procedures

3. Key Skills / What You Will Learn

Participants will gain foundational knowledge in:

  • Understanding IFR regulations
  • Interpreting METAR and TAF weather reports
  • Operating key navigation systems (ILS, RNAV/RNP, VOR, NDB)
  • Performing basic instrument flight maneuvers
  • Maintaining aircraft control using instrument scan techniques
  • Planning routes using radio navigation aids and charts
  • Executing instrument approaches and missed approach procedures

4. Training Structure

The course is structured into progressive IFR training modules:

IFR Fundamentals

  • IFR principles and regulations
  • Weather minimums and flight planning
  • METAR and TAF interpretation

Aircraft Instruments & Systems

  • Cockpit instrument familiarization
  • Navigation systems overview

Basic Instrument Maneuvers

  • Straight and level flight using instruments
  • Standard rate turns
  • Climbs and descents
  • Instrument scan technique
  • Partial panel operations

Module 4 — Navigation & Flight Planning

  • Radio navigation aids
  • Map reading and route planning

Module 5 — Instrument Approaches

  • ILS approaches
  • VOR approaches
  • ADF approaches
  • RNP approaches
  • Missed approach and holding procedures

5. Simulator Experience

Training takes place in the Acuro Airbus A320 fixed-base simulator, configured to replicate the workflow of general aviation IFR training.

To simulate early-stage instrument flying:
  • Direct law
  • Autopilot off
  • Autothrust off
  • Flight directors off
  • Manual pitch and power control
  • Manual trim control
  • Basic MCDU inputs
  • Manual radio navigation tuning

This setup allows pilots to focus on raw instrument flying skills before introducing advanced automation.

6. Course Details

  • Minimum Training Time: 10 hours
  • Environment: Simulated IMC conditions
  • Training Format: Instructor-guided simulator sessions

7. Entry Requirement

  • Participants must hold a PPL license or have completed the Acuro PPL Course

8. Key Benefits

Participants gain:

  • Realistic IFR flight experience in a commercial cockpit environment
  • Structured training focused on instrument flying fundamentals
  • Exposure to airline-style procedures and navigation systems
  • Professional instruction from experienced aviation trainers
Disclaimer:
  • This is an unofficial course (not linked to civil aviation authority), which means you will not be credited flight hours for your official logbook. You will not receive an Airbus A320 type rating.
  • This is a course mainly focused on the practical aspect of flying and will take roughly 10–20 hours (depending if you were enrolled in the PPL and IFR course before). If you achieve the requirements earlier you can use it for another course or convert to Sim flight time.
